07 Sep 5 tips to transition your home from Summer to Autumn!
An Autumn Interior
As the nights are drawing in and the leaves are beginning to change, it is time to get into the spirit of Autumn. Discover our five top tips to help you transition your home from bright and fresh to warm and cosy!
1. Revamp your walls
Not sure what shade to go for? Think of the colours you are naturally drawn to and start from there. Or pick up the phone – we would love to help!
2. Subtlety in the smaller items
If you are not feeling quite so daring and would rather make a more subtle colour change, you may prefer to just add accents of warm tones in smaller items such as side tables, bookshelves, rugs, side chairs or lighting. Pops of autumnal colours such as gold, bronze, yellow or orange are always good options, as these notes resemble the changing leaves and seasonal shift. If colour is just not your thing, then another way of evoking that cosy feeling is by introducing wood to instantly warm a room.
3. Texture and textiles
In the same way we wrap up to go outside, we should also layer our armchairs and sofas with cushions and throws to create that cosy feeling. By introducing a variety of textures, a more welcoming and homely feeling is created. This can be taken a step further by layering rugs – a creative way of introducing colour, playing with pattern and creating a little sanctuary. Afterall, who doesn’t like that soft feeling beneath their toes!
4. Don’t forget about the lighting
As the days get shorter and darker, lighting plays an essential role in illuminating our homes. If applied in the right way, lighting can create atmosphere, set the mood and instil warmth to a space. For this to happen, it is important to look for lights that provide a warm glow, are dimmable and glare-free. This will ensure the space is not only practical, but also comfortable and welcoming. It is also important to use a combination of floor lights, table lights and wall lights to ensure light is distributed at different levels and heights, and thus will avoid the space becoming too flat. And lets not forget about candles! Creating the ultimate warm glow and beautiful serene atmosphere, there is nothing cosier then a candle lit room!
5. Seasonal accessories
Adorn your home with dried flowers, pinecone filled bowls, baby pumpkins and stacks of books on display to really maximise the autumnal feeling at little cost or effort. Take this to the next level and hit all the senses by using diffusers or candles with warm spice, wild fig or woody notes to further that cosy feeling. Attention to the details can make ALL the difference.
