Herringbone Pillow – Vitra

Created by Raw-Edges, the Herringbone Collection emerged from the studio’s interest in the technique of immersion dyeing. The transformations of different materials and shapes when parts of them are dipped in a dye bath exert an almost magical fascination on the design duo Shay Alkalay and Yael Mer.

The Herringbone Pillows exude a cheerful freshness thanks to a use of clear colours and captivating patterns, which have a distinctly geometric look despite their handcrafted origins. The intersecting and overlapping bands of varying colour intensity were achieved through multiple immersions in diff erent coloured dyes, with the fi nal result serving as an exact template for the printed pattern of the Herringbone Pillows.
