Dundee Contemporary Arts

As the saying goes, old is gold! We recently had the pleasure of re-photographing this project, despite supplying the furniture over twenty years ago!

Dundee Contemporary Arts

Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) is a world-class cultural hub in Dundee, offering two contemporary art galleries, a two-screen cinema, a print studio, a learning and public engagement programme, a shop, and the Jute Café Bar.

Tangram’s collaboration with the Jute Café Bar began in the early 2000s—an exact date is hard to pin down, but communication back then was via fax (!), so it’s safe to say it’s been a while! Over the years, we’ve supplied various pieces of café furniture for this vibrant and high-traffic space, and we’re delighted to see that most of the pieces are still in use today. This is a testament to the durability and timeless quality of well-designed furniture, which we firmly believe should stand the test of time—even in demanding environments

Over the years, a few items naturally needed a little TLC—some chair seats were replaced here and there, along with the occasional table top. However, instead of discarding the entire chair or table, only the worn parts were replaced. This thoughtful approach not only extended the furniture’s lifespan but also aligned with a more sustainable way of thinking.

Among the key pieces were the Lammhults Campus chairs, chosen for their durability and sleek, minimalist aesthetic. Launched in 1992, Campus quickly became a global success, designed specifically to meet the criteria of a functional and affordable volume chair for the international contract market. Starting from just £208 ex VAT, the Campus chair is not only competitively priced but also renowned for its reliability—making it an outstanding choice for so many spaces.

We are really proud to have worked on this project as nearly two decades later, the furniture continues to serve its purpose.

Great design is not just about aesthetics but also about functionality, durability, and adaptability. Seeing how these pieces have stood the test of time reaffirms our commitment to providing quality solutions that last.

Whether you’re furnishing a café, a workspace, or any other area, investing in well-designed furniture is a decision that pays off for years to come. If you’d like to learn more about creating timeless interiors, get in touch with us—we’d love to help bring your vision to life!
