Beyond quality
When considering which brands we want to represent, it goes without saying that product quality is essential. We often talk about our brands being the “very best in European contemporary furniture” – and we really mean it! Each and every one of our brands puts quality first; it is core to their business and as a result we can be 100% confident in the service we offer. But whilst quality is a key attribute we look for when working with brands, to receive the Tangram seal of approval, we look for a little more – we’re quite fussy really.
To share with you what it is that makes our brands so special, we go behind the scenes with a few of our brands. We’re really excited about this – we hope you enjoy the read!
Zeitraum – “Knowledge, Passion, Craftsmanship”
To begin this short blog series, we take a closer look at the designs, processes and values of the much-loved German brand, Zeitraum.
Many of you will be very familiar with the brilliance of furniture manufacturer Zeitraum. Their modern, minimalist designs (predominantly consisting of solid wood) are exceptional! More so, they don’t just view sustainability as a box to tick, but rather it is integral to their way of work and is what makes Zeitraum, well, Zeitraum.
To give you an idea just how passionate Zeitraum are about furniture design, we delve into the design process involved in making one of their most successful chairs – Nonoto.
Far from just a wooden chair, Nonoto is a work of art, a sculptural beauty. Designed by Läufer & Keichel, Nonoto started as a sketch, and was brought to life using cutting edge CNC milling technology. Care and precision is involved at each stage in the design process and as a result a perfectly balanced chair is born which “cries out to be sat on”.

The design process is lengthy and clearly demonstrates the passion, dedication and attention to detail that goes in to making each chair. But what makes Nonoto so remarkable is the fact that it was, in a way, always bound to be beautiful – even before the first sketch. And this is all down to the company’s ‘green’ ethos.
Zeitraum has a deep respect for nature and their commitment to having a low environmental impact shapes every decision in the supply chain. For example, only raw materials are used which are renewable, biodegradable or recyclable. “We mainly use solid wood. The low energy consumption, along with the high quality, durability and natural recyclability, speaks for the processing of this unique material. Our hardwoods come exclusively from sustainable forestry.”
In addition, their highly accredited ‘Furniture Footprint’ model (which evaluates the environmental impact of each of their furniture pieces) offers a level of transparency that goes above and beyond standard industry expectations. The assessment provides precise information about the sourcing of raw materials, the environmental impact of the material, transport routes, and processes at each stage of the product lifecycle all the way to its disposal. The standards at Zeitraum are incredibly high and the company are always striving to improve.
When applying the Furniture Footprint model to the the Nonoto, specified in European oak, it scores an impressive sustainable rating of 99%. Long-lasting, recyclable and repairable – it is a chair that keeps giving!
“Masterpieces crafted from solid wood”
Zeitraum don’t just make furniture – they make masterpieces and more so they make masterpieces which are socially, economically and environmentally responsible! And that is why we love them so.
