19 Jul Breaking Down the Walls
Technological innovations, architectural trends and, increasingly, lifestyle, have triggered a quest for spaciousness in interiors. Replacing heavy robust walls with something more delicate and engaging such as a compact room divider is the favoured solution of some designers. Below, we spotlight a few such innovative and intelligent products. All of which are an easy way to enhance any home or office in additions to our contemporary contract furniture.
Airflake from Abstracta is a sound absorbing screen made from small fiber felt modules. It offers a chance to create unique colour combinations and shapes for any kind of space. Additionally, it can be attached to a wall as a sound absorbing decoration.
‘Synapse’ system (available in autumn) from Luceplan is a novel illuminated modular divider. What makes Luceplan’s product stand out is its integrated programmable LEDs. Besides creating ephemeral surfaces, Synapse divider can also function as an additional light-source.
In an interview ‘Synapse’ designer Francesco Gomez Paz explained his fascination with objects at the crossover between design and architecture.
Finally, ‘Xraydio’ from Diesel with Moroso, a 3-panel screen which plays with an idea of a seventeenth-century still-life but with an x-ray twist to it. It can be read as a reference to the popularity of room dividers in European higher societies in that area.
