20 Apr Bright Ideas in Milan
Lighting really impressed us at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile this year, with a lot of great new products as well as a few useful modifications to some of our existing favourites. Here are some of the bright ideas that caught our attention in Milan.
Since its launch in 2005, Danish manufacturer Lightyears’ Caravaggio range has become known and loved for its distinctive and dramatic figure. With the new Caravaggio Matt model (image above), Cecilie Manz has added a new style and a new look to the simple and timeless design. The well-known and elegant design is now available in three attractive matt shades that allow the pure lines and soft shapes of the design to speak for themselves.
Italian manufacturer Luceplan’s new Archetype lamp has a very classical shape but is technologically modern. Developed by Danish design company Goodmorning Technology, the lamp’s exterior structure is in painted aluminium and the internal diffuser is in transparent polycarbonate; integrated between these two elements is a warm white LED and an E27 screw attachment for connection to any standard-size traditional bulb holder. The energy saving LEDs are characterized by long life, high output and no maintenance cost, a reflection of Luceplan’s continued commitment to environmental sustainability.
Iconic Italian lighting brand, Foscarini launched a number of new luminaries to add to their already extensive range. We have ordered several product samples, the Behive (above left), Birdie, Chouchin (above right) and Tress Stilo for the showroom, so be sure to pop in and see them for yourself when they arrive.
Finally, Artemide showed a stunning new version of its iconic Tolomeo mega floor lamp. The legendary light designed by Michele de Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina in 1987 is now available in sleek black and polished aluminium finishes. The new black Tolomeo floor lamp is one of an extensive family of floor, wall, ceiling and suspension versions that are all suitable for domestic, commercial and retail applications.
