21 Nov Green Friday – A Tangram Tradition
Taking a more sustainable stance
For the third consecutive year, Tangram is proudly avoiding the frenzy of Black Friday in favour of Green Friday—a day dedicated to celebrating our sustainable collections. At Tangram, we consider the manufacturers we collaborate with as an extension of our family. We choose them not only for designing gorgeous pieces but also for their appreciation for craftsmanship, innovative practices and enduring designs that stand the test of time.
While Black Friday often fuels the fast furniture industry, Green Friday stands in stark contrast. It emphasises the intrinsic value of a product, recognising the meticulous care, attention to detail, and exceptional skill invested in bringing these designs to life. Our commitment to Green Friday aligns with our belief in sustainable practices and underscores the importance of mindful consumer choices.

Our Green Friday Favourites
Compound Lounge Chair – Mater
Danish manufacturer Mater specialise in transforming waste into beautiful furniture. For example, the Compound Lounge Chair, designed by OEO Studio, features a frame constructed from 20% recycled steel, while its seat and back are made from the innovative material Matek®.
Invented by Mater, Matek®, is composed of a binder and a fibre. Examples of fibre materials include coffee bean shells, a by-product of the roasting process, and sawdust generated during wood production. The binder material, essential for cohesion, is derived from recycled plastic or a plastic-based substitute. The result is a blend of materials to form a distinctive compound ideal for furniture making. The company’s whole ethos is admirable and last year they removed 30 tonnes of waste from the planet turning it into furniture! Just amazing!!
Curtain Table – Zeitraum
Zeitraum’s Curtain collection consists of a dining table, coffee table, and console table. Each have the distinctive and sculptural base whereby natural wood takes the form of a flowing curtain. Unquestionably beautiful, but what also adds to the appeal of the Curtain collection is the manufacturer behind the design. Zeitraum was founded on the principle that nothing should be produced that cannot be repaired. Sustainability is at their very core and they really treasure the raw material that is wood – ‘We treat our furniture like good friends: considerately and with respect. ‘
Skynest – Flos
Skynest from Flos, designed by Marcel Wanders, is an embodiment of style and sustainability. This stunning suspension light seamlessly merges skill and eco-conscious design. It’s dome showcases a colourful tubular mesh crafted from recycled and recyclable fabric. In addition, each luminous element, powered by micro-connectors, ensures optimal LED module efficiency. What sets this lighting masterpiece apart is not just its aesthetic appeal but also its thoughtful engineering— glue-free allowing for easy disassembly and recycling.
Bolete Lounge BIO – Andreu World
Bolete Lounge BIO® is also on our list for most sustainable designs this Green Friday. Designed by Patricia Urquiola for Andreu World, this modular masterpiece has a unique central base with an expressive grooved texture. The chair is also crafted from 100% natural origin BIO® thermopolymer. This eco-friendly material is 100% recyclable, compostable, and biodegradable, ensuring that the Bolete Lounge BIO® leaves a minimal environmental footprint at the end of its lifecycle. Andreu World has recently been recognised as a B-Corporation, a huge milestone in their sustainable journey and a massive achievement!
Sport – Kvadrat
Also designed by Patricia Urquiola is Sport, a pioneering upholstery textile from Kvadrat. This revolutionary creation not only exudes a vibrant and contemporary aesthetic but also tells a compelling story of environmental responsibility. Sport takes the lead as the world’s first recycled polyester upholstery textile crafted entirely from 100% ocean-bound plastic waste. The plastic used to manufacture the material is collected no further than 10 km away from coastlines and on remote islands in Thailand, where better waste management infrastructure is needed. A conscious and beautiful choice for those who appreciate both style and ethical responsibility.
