25 Jun Our Manufacturers’ Latest Designs: The Hospitality Edit
Within this series of blogs ‘Our Manufacturers’ Latest Designs’, we have categorised our favourite furniture and lighting designs which were released at the two furniture fairs we attended this year – Salone del Mobile (Milan) and 3daysofdesign (Copenhagen). In this blog, we explore the designs that fit perfectly into hospitality settings including bars, restaurants and cafes.
Hospitality Inspiration – the Latest Designs from Copenhagen and Milan
Yves – Montis
Gerard van den Berg devised a slender steel construction as the basis for a unique chair that has many faces. Perfect for hospitality settings, the cover is completely removeable ensuring it can be easily washed or repaired. Yves can be upholstered in fabric or leather and with or without upholstered armrests.
Dopo – Mattiazzi
Designed by Studio Œ, the DOPO stool stood out with it’s soft and somewhat playful nature. We loved the extended back leg which acts as a perfect hook for a jacket or bag.
Kumulo – Secto
Like floating clouds, Kumulo is intriguing in it’s form. “Kumulo can easily become the focal point of a room. It provides warm, soft light that reflects the shades of the birch.” The designer, Seppo Kohmo envisions the Kumulo pendant lamp within lobbies and restaurants as well as private spaces.
Aeon Chair – Zeitraum
One of our favourite designs of 3daysofdesign, Aeon is a stunning chair that seamlessly combines the flexibility of a molded wood shell with the stability of a solid wood frame. With exceptional comfort and freedom of movement it works well in so many settings. With or without arms, the oak chair is also available in a range of colour stains. We were fortunate enough to meet the designer, Mathias Hahn, during the fair which only furthered our appreciation for Aeon.
Bagdad – Gubi
Bagdad by Mathieu Matégot is Gubi’s latest portable light. Available in three colours, Bagdad can rest at various angles thanks to its unusual shape. Our favourite detail was the golden sphere that sits on the tip of the light, this also acts as the on/off/dimmer control. We feel these would look particularly beautiful in an intimate restaurant to create ambiance and cosiness.
Alder – Mater
The Alder collection by Patricia Urquiola is Mater’s first collection in biodegradable Matek™ – a plastic that will eventually fully decompose back into nature. The collection includes stools and side/coffee tables which have been designed for indoor and outdoor use. Highly sustainable, Alder will work well in a whole host of environments including homes, cafes and everything in between.
Bolete – Andreu World
The Andreu World showroom was definitely a highlight of ours during Salone. Despite being so familiar with the brand and their designs already, we always feel like kids in a candy shop when we visit. New to their collection was this stunning side chair Bolete and although it is still at the prototype stage, we’re a little obsessed! Designed by Patricia Urquiola, the Bolete collection also includes a modular sofa and coffee table. Both of which were released last year and have been a huge success – thanks in part to their unique base which is 100% biodegradable and compostable. Incredible!
Martha – Ozwald Boateng x Poltrona Frau
Martha is a blend of comfort, elegance, and sophistication. Upholstered in a dark tribal print and with the outer shell a contrasting saddle leather, Martha is chic and inviting. The moody tones and luxurious materials ensures the design would work particularly well in cocktail bars to really enhance the overall atmosphere.
Héra Soft – Pedrali
Héra Soft is Pedrali’s latest launch and is a wonderful example of comfort and cosiness. Available in ash wood or American walnut, its elegant and ergonomic backrest is made of injected polyurethane foam. We particularly like the contrasting fabrics for the seat and back allowing all sorts of design possibilities. In addition, the attention to detail of the design makes Héra Soft suitable for prestigious hospitality projects including restaurants and hotels.
Heb – + Halle
Heb is a family of tables by+ Halle. Whilst not a new design, we thought relevant to include as we were reminded of their brilliance in Copenhagen. The Danish design company describe them beautifully – ‘The HEB tables are versatile, self-defining, expressive and suitable for any setting, produced as high and low, small and large units, with extruded industrial HEB beams as their durable base. The tables are charming and grounding, acting as visual as well as social touchstones, with the ultimate purpose of encouraging people to gather around, and between them create a shared world.’ Well isn’t that lovely?!
VNA – Zeitraum
VNA is a series of tables, chairs and stools by Zeitraum. Inspired by traditional craftsmanship in the Alpine region, there is a feeling of simplicity with this collection. A great option for a minimalist cafe providing an uncluttered backdrop that lets the café’s offerings take center stage.
