11 May Salone del Mobile 2018 Trends
The Salone del Mobile in Milan is a must for all design lovers looking to
stay on trend and is a yearly pilgrimage for the Tangram team. Read on to
discover what was new and trending within furniture and interiors for 2018….
Colour
For the last few years, pink has been the dominant colour within the furniture,
interiors and indeed fashion world. Up to now it has been mixed with cool,
pale blues and minty greens and overall has conveyed
a sense of transparency and lightness.
This year it has been well and truly livened up with the introduction of
brighter hues of terracotta, bordeaux and orange
resulting in a richer, warmer palette.
Furniture Style
Across all manufacturers there was a clear sense of refined elegance
and confidence in new pieces. Frames on tables were slender, sleek and sharp and
in most cases matt black allowing the tops to almost float.
Good examples of this are the new Planner coffee tables from Fritz Hansen,
the new additions to the Palladio table range from Artifort and the very
elegant Liquid side tables from Baxter.
Soft seating offered exposed frames and leg details on the outside
as seen in the Loft sofa from Bensen.
Marble
Marble remains a key element of interiors and was prevalent across all new
launches this year. However, marble too has moved on and we were
shown countless varieties of stone, previously
unseen in the furniture world.
Whilst black Marquina and white Carrara still put in an occasional appearance, Bamboo
marble has been added to the mix by some, seen here on a Reverse Occasional
Side Table from Andreu World which would look stunning in any setting.
There were many marbles on show which were
rich and warm and full of amazing colour, including the infamous pink!
Poltrona Frau launched the Othello table in stunning Fior de Pesco
marble with facetted edge detail – beautiful!
