25 Sep Spotlight: Vitra
Vitra may be new to the Tangram offering, but the brand has been a spearhead within the design industry for more than 60 years. Boasting collaborations with some of the most celebrated designers past & present, including Charles & Ray Eames and Antonio Citterio, Vitra have a portfolio that includes timeless classics and fresh new designs.
We’ve got a combination of both on display in our showroom; including the widely recognised Eames Lounge Chair, RAR Rocking chair and Noguchi coffee table. More recent designs include the Repos & Grand Repos chairs jointly developed by Vitra and Antonio Citterio in 2011 and the 2015 Belleville range from Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec.
The Repos & Grand Repos have been heralded as modern design classics to rival the Egg chair from Arne Jacobsen and Eames Lounge chair because of their elegance and supreme comfort. Vitra note that “thanks to the synchronised mechanism concealed beneath the upholstery, sitters can move from an upright posture to a reclined angle for resting and lock the backrest in any position. The resistance of the backrest can be manually adjusted to the user’s weight. This ensures great comfort and optimal spinal support across the entire range of movement.”
The Belleville range seen above was launched at this year’s Milan Furniture Fair. The designs are named after and inspired by the Bouroullecs’ neighbourhood in Paris and the influence is clear in the curves and dark frame. The collection is a wonderfully versatile addition to the Vitra product offering as it works well in both a home dining setting and in commercial cafe-type spaces. Available to order now!
Another trend that can be achieved with the Vitra dining range is the use of assorted chairs around the dining table. We decided to create this look in our showroom, once more highlighting both classic and new designs. Often seen in quirky cafes and restaurants, assorted chairs are carefully matched yet give the appearance of being casually put together. Vitra chairs featured in our showroom are Standard, Eames Plastic Side Chair DSR, Jill Wood, HAL Wood, Basel, Tip Ton plus the EM table with solid wood base.
The versatility seen in the Belleville collection and the dining chairs runs true throughout a number of Vitra products; such as the Polder sofa and Slow Chair used in the citizenM hotel in Amsterdam and the Grand Repos chairs in Reading University.
So, whether it’s a single chair or an entire space, as either contemporary breakout furniture for a commercial environment or for your home. Vitra have a vast portfolio of interesting products. To browse through these, visit our dedicated Vitra page and contact us with any enquiries.
