17 Feb Stockholm Furniture Fair 2016: Contract Highlights
Of the roughly 700 exhibitors at the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, 80% are Scandinavian making the event the largest meeting place for Scandinavian design. From whiteboards to modular seating systems, the Scandi’s have launched some very exciting new designs. We’ve selected our highlights and categorised them into offices, hospitality and apartments.
Offices
Swedish manufacturer Abstracta have enjoyed great success with their acoustic ‘Airflake’ system which uses modular felt flakes to dull constant background noise and divide space in open plan working environments. The new design is exactly the same principle, but in the shape of a leaf. This gives added flexibility as the leaves can be fitted together in horizontal and vertical positions. Available in a whole host of colours and shades, the Airleaf is certain to be a popular feature in open plan spaces in addition to contemporary breakout furniture!
New ‘Attach’ table system from Lammhults is a clever design with a variety of size and finish options. The image above demonstrates the 2m diameter table top on just 3 legs! A great addition to Lammhults’ extensive office furniture offering.
This storage system from Mitab is fantastic! It’s called the ‘Row of’ and is great for offices in terms of both style and function. The varied heights, closed/open storage and variety of colours creates numerous configuration possibilities and all metal is used from recycled materials.
The ‘Note’ from Lintex is a double sided whiteboard designed for optimum flexibility around the office. either hang it up on the wall or carry it around from meeting to meeting using the in-built handles!
Some other contemporary contract furniture highlights include:
‘Aperi’ seating from Lammhults;
BAUX Plank acoustic tiles;
‘Pluralis’ table and ‘Oxford Premium’ chair from Fritz Hansen.

Hospitality
The ‘Nest’ collection from +Halle “takes the traditional lounge area to new heights”. It combines the concepts of a bar stool and sofa and challenges the often uncomfortable feel of bar stools.
The ‘Laminett’ is the little sister to Swedese’s design classic ‘Lamino’ chair. The Laminett is 20cm lower than the Lamino and this lower height allows the chairs to work well in a group setting with a sofa.
The ‘Decostick’ pendant from Orjso was designed for a hotel restaurant in Sweden which allows one light to point directly onto the table and the other for general light. Different switches allow for different luminosity from each bulb.
‘LA PIPE’ chairs are a new addition to the small but expanding Friends & Founders collection. Founded just 2 years ago, the Scandinavian brand are continually launching high quality designs for contemporary contract spaces, homes and outdoor.
Apartments
Lightyears have launched a new take on the now iconic Caravaggio light – ‘Caravaggio Read’. The Cecilie Manz design is now available with a rotating shade and dimmable lamp and comes in a floor, wall and table version.
Bla Station’s ‘Dent’ chairs were launched in 2013, but seeing them again in Stockholm has sparked our enthusiasm for the expertly crafted chairs. Formed to fit the contours of the body, the Dent can be stacked and is available in molded wood veneer or now dressed in fabric or leather.
The ‘Petite family’ from Secto is a great addition to the portfolio of wooden lights. The wall and table lights are adjustable and turn from side to side while the pendant is a smaller alternative to the traditional collection.
Other highlights for apartments include:
‘Saw’ series from Friends & Founders;
‘Mood fabric’ board from Lintex
So, as you’ll have realised from all the scrolling, there were quite a few products worth mentioning from our visit to Stockholm this year! We were conscious of it’s length which is why some products don’t have a brief description. However, we’d be more than happy to provide further information on any of the products listed. As well as sharing more information about our interior design service in Scotland.
