04 Mar USM Haller Through The Eyes of Tangram
“Endless Possibilities”. This is how USM describes their most popular product, the Haller. To test this theory, we asked each member of the Tangram team how they would use the Haller system in their own home.

The Design History
But before we delve in, you may be wondering what the USM Haller actually is.
Originally designed in the 1960s by Fritz Haller and Paul Schärer, the Haller is an iconic modular furniture system, renowned for its sleek aesthetic, high-quality materials, and exceptional adaptability. The system consists of a simple yet ingenious framework of steel tubes and panels that can be configured into endless variations. Whether used in homes, offices, or retail spaces, the Haller system is designed to evolve and adapt to the users needs. And as a result, it is effortlessly sustainable and hugely practical.
USM Haller Seven Ways
Interior Designer, Joanne, goes first with her wonderfully practical and creative solution for the Haller in her daughter’s bedroom.
“What’s really nice about this configuration is that it can be used as both a storage unit for my daughter’s toys and books as well as a little drawing or colouring table. With its adaptable nature and the fact that it is designed to last a lifetime, Haller can also grow with her, which is such a lovely idea.”

Marketing & BD Executive, Pippa, opts for the Haller in the form of a drinks trolley.
“I love the idea of wheeling this in at the end of a dinner party to offer guests their tipple of choice. It makes for a perfect cocktail/mocktail station with the handy little drawer for a chopping board, knife and maybe some pre-prepared garnishes. I think it’s also nice to display drinks bottles rather than storing these away as they are often really pretty and varied in height, colour and shape.”

Junior Interior Designer, Rebekah, wishes to create a cosy bedroom with her Haller choice. The back lighting in the drawer adds a lovely functional touch allowing you to locate any items with ease even in the dead of night.

Interior Designer, Wouter, plans to wow with his storage plans for Haller.
“I have a long wall that sits in between the living and the dining room that is less of a functional space but I walk through it multiple times a day. I would love to have a playful wall element to dress up the space and showcase some of the possessions that I have gathered in my life. Combining this with useful storage for books, ‘life admin’ and perhaps even a little incorporated desk for working at home, would be really cool. I also like the idea of adding more visual interest with greenery thanks to the handy planter shelves that USM offer for Haller.”

Interior designer Jenny already owns a Haller unit, which she and her family currently use as a TV console in their living room. Nevertheless, Jenny would like to continue the Haller system throughout her home. This time she would like it to be used as a media unit to house her daughter’s record collection. The addition of castors also adds a practical touch, making it easy to move the unit whenever and wherever the music is needed!

Following a similar theme, Director, Tracy wishes to use USM Haller for her husband’s gaming hobby.
“I like that Haller is so flexible. You can choose if you want open shelves or closed shelves (or both!). The open shelves would allow my husband to display his consoles and other collectables, whilst the drawers can ensure that games, wires and equipment can be neatly stored away. From an aesthetic point of view it also works really well with our style and space. Now all that there is to decide is which colour?!”

Managing Director Sarah chose the USM Haller sideboard in a striking blue, proving that practical furniture can also make a bold statement. Whether showcasing treasured objects or storing everyday essentials, this versatile piece transforms into a work of art in its own right.

The USM Haller collection is a true testament to timeless design, adaptability, and personal expression. As our team’s selections show, each piece can be tailored to individual tastes and needs—whether it’s a bold statement or a minimalist storage solution, USM Haller proves that furniture isn’t just functional—it’s a reflection of who we are.
