Clerkenwell 2016: New Products

London continues to be a hotbed for design and Clerkenwell in particular stands out as one of the city’s best design destinations.

Clerkenwell

Now in its 7th year, Clerkenwell Design Week has grown to include 8 exhibition areas as well as over 90 showrooms.  It’s a platform not only for major European brands, but an opportunity for many young and aspiring designers to showcase their work.

Many brands presented examples of products launched at the Salone in Milan in April but a few used Clerkenwell to showcase new products.  Resident, the young New Zealand company founded in 2011 launched the Odin chair by Jamie McLellen.

Available with various seat and upholstery options, the feature is the cast aluminium leg frame with its engineered profile.  Resident also showed the new Echo spotlight by Flynn Talbot, an elegant solution for both track and pendant installations.

British furniture brand Hitch Mylius now have a permanent showroom presence in the foyer of the Malmaison hotel in Charterhouse Square and filled the space with a variety of their new reception system, hm102.

The growth in the significance of Clerkenwell was demonstrated by Fritz Hansen who chose the occasion to launch the new VIA57 chair.

VIA57

Designed by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels, it is related to his design of the Via 57 West building recently completed in NYC.

“Just as the VIA57 West building casually leans into the Manhattan skyline, the VIA57 chair has a laid-back feel that will add an element of ease to its surroundings” describe Fritz Hansen when asked about the design.  Another great collaboration between Fritz Hansen and a successful Danish architect!

Back Me Up

Montis also took the opportunity to introduce 2 new chairs to the UK market at CDW.  Back Me Up (designed by Arian Brekveld) is a dining chair with timber legs and an organic back which is very slightly lifted from the seat.  Available with different fabric or leather on seat and back, this is a wonderfully supportive and comfortable chair.

Enzo

Even more comfortable, and looking fantastic dressed in leather, is the Enzo armchair by Geert Koster.  Visually light, compact and with structural timber leg detail, this is a chair that invites you to sit back and relax.
