The Vega Chair: A Collector’s Piece with a Story

Brand Stories

Celebrating a true icon of Danish design: the Vega chair by Carl Hansen & Søn.

Originally created in 1956 by Vilhelm Theodor Lauritzen – one of Denmark’s most influential architects and a pioneer of Danish Modernism – the Vega chair was designed for Copenhagen’s People’s House, later transformed into the legendary concert venue, Vega. Lauritzen believed that architecture and design should be an applied art created for everyone, not just the privileged few.

At first glance, the Vega chair appears elegantly simple, yet on closer inspection it reveals Lauritzen’s deep understanding of form and function. The gently curved backrest is shaped to embrace the sitter, while precise proportions ensure perfect comfort.

Expertly crafted from a combination of wood and steel, Vega also offers optional upholstery on the seat and back for added softness and style. Subtle wooden feet complete the design, giving this stackable chair an artisanal feel which we adore.

The reissue by Carl Hansen & Søn stays true to Lauritzen’s original vision, celebrating honest materials, craftsmanship, and a design that stands the test of time. Whether for dining, meetings, or hospitality spaces, the Vega chair brings elegance and functional beauty to every setting.

A collector’s item that tells a story, yet remains wonderfully adaptable and versatile. Few designs can truly claim that - but the Vega chair does so effortlessly!
