The Tangram Team
Tangram is the team
Our thoughtful and responsive approach to interior design is defined by the small but highly specialist team we have built.
A group of people with decades of hands-on experience and the deftness of touch to turn a design brief and ideas into timelessly beautiful and tasteful spaces that exceed expectations.

What Makes Us Different?
Tangram has well-earned knowledge, established relationships with manufacturers and an ever-expanding catalogue of quality contemporary furniture for customers to explore, but our service goes deeper than simply ‘selling good taste’ and sharing our new favourite pieces.
Trust
For every customer, the Tangram experience is built on firm foundations of trust and understanding. We know the value of reliable service, mastering the details and responding to what each client needs from their space.
The privilege of helping people with interior design, whether it’s for their home or their business, is a motivator and an inspiration.
Longevity
Good design lasts. For us, longevity is about more than heirloom-quality contemporary furniture we select for our Edinburgh showroom — it’s about the lasting connections people form with their spaces.
The furniture and interiors we choose become part of family homes for generations, shape businesses and create real moments of significance.
Touch
We are tactile people, and encourage our customers to experience the materiality of furniture, fixtures, window blinds and accessories, first-hand.
In our experience, physical touch builds understanding of texture and form and elevates the overall experience. Interiors should not only look beautiful, but feel right — creating comfort, ease and a sense of belonging.
Purpose
Design briefs vary, spaces have quirks and there are always alternative options on every project. One thing that never wavers is the importance of clear purpose in every design decision, big or small.
Effective interior design is not about chasing trends or showing nice labels, it’s about intention. When every detail of your space has a reason behind it, what follows is calm, efficient and quietly impactful interiors.
Timeline
1994
1994 was when Tangram was formed with humble roots and a very small team. Time was spent visiting European Trade fairs and gathering manufacturers who did not have a presence in the UK at all and who offered a diverse range of products in a contemporary style that Edinburgh had never seen.
Tangram still work with many of these brands today and we consider them very important and very much a part of our family – we have all grown up together.

1998-2000
Tangram worked on primarily commercial projects and built strong links with many architects and interior designers across Edinburgh and further afield. The products within the portfolio were specified on a huge variety of projects and the team grew with Sarah (now our MD) joining. With a background in textile design and having worked extensively with fabrics, curtains and blinds the skillset of the team also grew.
As the team expanded, more space was required and so the move to our lovely showroom in Jeffrey Street was made. The building was very much in need of some love and updating when it became ours - a job that was relished over many months before opening the new space in January 2000.

2001-2006
With the new, larger showroom came more larger projects. Tangram worked with developers to supply multiple bespoke fitted wardrobes to high end residential apartments as well as Silent Gliss roller blinds and along the way learnt a lot and garnered greater project management skills and knowledge.
With the new showroom came far more residential clients who were able to see a greater selection of products and so Joanne joined the team to assist with the greater workload and recently celebrated her 20th year as a vital part of the team. Tangram grew up a little more and became a limited company.

2007-2017
With greater experience of large scale projects and with a portfolio of products constantly evolving, Tangram began working with the team at the Quartermile development in Edinburgh alongside Foster and Partners. From the earliest stages of the planning, Tangram were involved to assist with the building design and specification of roller blinds for all apartments – over the course of almost 10 years, thousands of blinds and curtains were installed across the whole development.
In addition, Tangram were invited to design a show apartment in one of the conversion buildings – the success of this led to a further 20+ show apartments and many property purchasers taking advantage of the interior design service on offer. During this time, both Jenny and Tracy joined the team and continue to be a huge part of the team today.

2018-2025
2018 saw the beginning of our relationship with Cala as we worked together with Richard Murphy architects on the new development at The Crescent to supply a large number of motorised roller blinds. Another technically demanding project where knowledge, installation skill and project management were imperative to ensure timely handovers to clients. Many property purchasers also chose to furnish their homes with the assistance of Tangram and many continue to enhance and add items to their homes today.
Pippa joined the team to lead the marketing and business development side of things and we moved on to the Boroughmuir development with Cala. Wouter joined us from The Netherlands with many years of experience working on residential projects in Utrecht and immediately added great skill and a different approach to the team.
In 2020, despite the pandemic, Tangram became an Employee-Owned business showing great testament to the succession planning that had taken place and the commitment and years of experience the team had gathered. Rebekah joined us with great tech and drawing skills and the team was complete. With new energy and continued enthusiasm, our 30th Birthday was celebrated with a party where many of our friends, clients and manufacturers from around the world came to join us to help celebrate our milestone.

After much planning and preparation, Tangram became fully employee-owned (EO) in 2020.
As partners in an EO business, every member of the team is personally invested in the interior design work we do for clients and, through this work, the long-term success of Tangram.
This shared incentive has bolstered an already strong sense of responsibility, care and pride. For clients, it means they work directly with people who are collaborative, motivated and committed to the best results.
